The Signs That My Home Needs Repiping
For some homeowners there just not aware that at some point in time our pipes will need replacing. You'll need to know the signs that your pipes need replacing because unlike a water heater that might just stop working, your home pipes will show signs that they need replacing. Number one is the age of your home because steel galvanized or copper pipes have a 40 to 50-year life expectancy. With that said, they can still exceed that number and can also fall short of that number as well, especially if the pipes are low quality. Some of the signs that your pipes need replacing is repeated leaks, rust in the water, and low water pressure. Some homeowner may even want to change there pipes after a neighbor has experienced a catastrophic leak.

PEX is The Tubing Of Choice For Home Repiping
For most of the 20th century, we piped our homes with steel galvanized pipes up until the 60s then copper after that. Then in the 80s, PEX was introduced and started to pick up notoriety in the 90s. PEX is cross-linked polyethylene, commonly abbreviated PEX, and has become the alternative to polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is a very flexible tubing, which makes it easy for your home repiping contractor to manipulate. The PEX tubing is lower in cost, easier to install, and has a life expectancy of 40 to 50 years as well. Additionally, it can withstand temperatures of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The only disadvantages are the tubing cannot be recycled, and while user-friendly for the do-it-yourselfer, the tubing does require special connectors and tools.
Some Prefer Copper For There Home Repipe, And That's OK
While PEX may now be the choice of most plumbing specialist and homeowner alike but there are still those that would prefer copper over PEX. Some homeowners are not ready to buy into PEX just yet, and for those homeowners, we say "we got you covered" At Big B's Plumbing, we have both PEX and copper home repiping specialists ready to serve you. Copper is a very reliable pipe and can last as long as any pipe on the market. If your home uses a water filtration system, it can increase the life of copper pipes by many years because it will eliminate the hard water minerals that lead to corrosion. The fact that copper can be recycled is another reason a homeowner may want copper over PEX.
