5 Ways To Find Your Lifetime Plumber

Big B's Plumbing - Your Plumber for Life!

Finding your lifetime plumber is similar to discovering that trustworthy auto mechanic, electrician, or tradesperson. Unfortunately, if you’re a homeowner, you’ll eventually have a setback with your plumbing system. You’ll be faced with finding the right plumbing company to make the repairs. If we’re happy with the service, we will usually clip that number, invoice, or business card to your list of phone numbers, and they become your “Plumber for Life.” However, this could be a problem, especially if a plumbing issue raises its ugly head and you call the same plumbing company. You are probably not going to have the same plumber to perform your service. Although most homes rarely experience plumbing problems, find a plumbing company with high possible standards.

A Little Advice:

  • Ask for the plumber who performed the last service on your plumbing system by name. If that plumber no longer works there, then ask for a highly experienced plumber.
  • Plumbing companies change over the years, some even change hands. Reevaluate and check the latest reviews.
  • Every plumbing company does not always provide the same services so ask for your service by name. For example, some companies do not provide Hydrojet drain cleaning for removing the toughest clogs.

Lots Of Plumbing Contractors Work From Home

A large number of plumbing contractors work from home and make all their own service calls. This might be good for some homeowners because they can save on some costs; however, they may lose some of the good services that a full-service plumbing company might provide. For example, your phone call may go straight to voice mail, or your plumber might be booked up, and you’re left waiting for service. These are just a couple of disadvantages when using a small one or two-person plumbing operation. Nevertheless, using a smaller company might find you your plumber for life.

Take The Few Extra Minutes, And You’ll Find Your Lifetime Plumber

Either way, whether a large or small plumbing company, most of the principles are basically the same. Take those few extra minutes to read reviews and ask family and friends for a referral. Of course, you can also take those few extra steps and check their contractor’s license and the Better Business Bureau. Most of all, what company are you most comfortable with? You want to be confident that the company you choose provides you with the necessary plumbing services and gives you the best options for what you need. Unfortunately, it does take some time to find that special relationship. Still, you might have to go through a few calls and appointments before you feel good about the company you finally choose as your lifetime plumbing company.

Home Checklist To Find Your Lifetime Plumber

Finding The Right Plumber CheckList

1) Ratings, Reviews, and Referrals – Nowadays, we can be steps ahead in choosing the perfect plumber if we read reviews online and do some basic research on companies before making the call. Read what others have experienced with the plumbing companies you are researching. Past customers have had first-hand experience with the company in question, so be informed. Just be careful because these days, companies can pay for positive reviews or get their friends to write reviews for their business. Also, call your neighbors and friends to see who they’ve used and what they have to say.

2) Narrow it down to three companies and start making the calls. Questions to consider: How fast can you get an appointment? Do they sound professional? Are they listening to your plumbing issues and concerns?

3) Does the technician seem knowledgeable when you get your service call? Again, do they listen to your concerns? Are they providing you with pertinent information on moving forward with your plumbing issues? Are they proposing something more than what you may need? Upselling plumbing services is good as long as it is what you need. Your technician should never use scare tactics to upsell you. If you’re uncomfortable with your plumber, request someone else. However, if you’re dealing with a small company, then pay for the service call and move on.

4) Never make a final decision based on the almighty dollar. I think most of us can agree that a decision made based on the lowest estimate will only lead to problems in most instances. But, again, much will depend on the service they’re providing.

5) Depending on the size of your job, getting three estimates is good practice; although in some cases, two is just fine. Remember, you are not obligated to any plumbing service if you are not comfortable with the technician. And the same is true for any trade.

What People Are Saying...

I called Big B's Plumbing because I the hot water would not turn off in our master bathroom. I tried to turn the valve off under the sink and it broke off, so I had to shut off the main water to the house. It was noticeable the valves were original to the home. When I called, the rep stated that I would be informed about the service tech and their experience along with services offered "On The Spot". I was on a bit of a time crunch...

Found them on Google and they had good quality reviews. Made the call and set up the appointment for same day. Dispatch called me a few hours later to confirm our appointment and let me know that the technician Mathew was on the way. This was supposed to be an easy job once Mathew arrived. But it turned out to be so much more than that. Without hesitation or a sour look on his face, he dove deep into his van...
